I have two parakeets. Both about 2 years old. Both male. We just moved, he looks a little funny, his feathers around his face don't look right. He is eating and drinking, but seems a little off. Is there anything I can do at home? Help!|||It could just be the trauma of the move. Let him get adjusted to his new home and he should be back to normal.
I dont think it's any of that nonsense about it changing into a female.
It would have done that a LONG time ago if it's two years old now.
Good luck(:|||This could be a couple of things. Some female parakeets only develop a brown spot on their cere when they are ready to breed, it will disappear once they are no longer in season. And the birds behavior should return to normal. If both of your parakeets are definitely male, both should have dark blue ceres, then it's possible that the one with the brown spot has picked up a slight respiratory infection. The brown spot could be from a discharge from the nostrils, and the bird could be rubbing his face against the perch or the bars trying to keep his nostrils clear which would explain the feathers not looking right. If you suspect this is true, get some avian tetracycline and follow the directions on the package about how much to put in his water, and for how long. It's okay that the other bird is treated too because respiratory problems can be passed from one bird to another. You should be able to find the avian tetracycline at a bigger pet store, but it's easier to find and cheaper to buy it at a feed store.|||A Female parakeet's cere will turn Brown when she is ready to breed, before then it is normally whitish or bluish white. If it is a female then this is perfectly normal. The cere will also get crusty looking in some females during this time, that too is normal.
Are you absolutely sure this is a Male?
A Male parakeet's cere is purplish blue or pinkish blue when young and turns bright Blue when he is ready to breed.|||he is probably just molting and maturing. but to make sure go to an avain vet
