My parakeets beek is like rotting away?

my parakeet's beek is like thining out at about 3/4 cm from tip and up and the sides are getting straight cracks in them. Is this a disease or mal nutriation?|||A birds beak is made of keratin, like finger nails. It is common for them to flake off the dead layers, BUT it isn't normal for them to crack all the way through. The best way to know what is going on is to visit your avian vet.


Sometimes birds on an all seed diet will show irregularities in their beak and the feet get crusty. The best diet is a pellet/seed mix and fresh foods like cooked rice, broccoli, parsley, pasta, frozen mixed veggies thawed, etc. If your bird isn't used to this type of diet, it will take patience to gradually convert him. Budgies can be very stubborn and if you don't make sure they are eating, they can starve themselves. So watch the paper on the bottom of the cage for a normal amount of droppings, and change the paper daily.|||It probably injured itself. Ask a vet.|||Does he have a Cuddle Bone in his cage. If not try to get one and he will use it to keep his beek sharp and strong.|||They need vegetables every day. There's also some supplement for calcium i think, you can put in their seed. I was told that will help. A bird I found had a pretty bad beak and the vet said to try that just to help.





I would advise taking him to an avian vet.|||That's really weird sounding. I've never heard of that before, but it sounds really dangerous and lethal. without a beak birds can't eat. If it hurts the bird to move its beak, it could starve. I'd take it to the vet ASAP.
