Budgie skeleton http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj233鈥?/a>|||Both the upper and lower parts of a bird's beak (the mandibles) grow from their faces much as your finger and toenails grow from fingers/toes. Like fingernails, beaks can get blunt edges and when you have no teeth (as birds do) this can present an issue. This is why birds grind their beaks before sleep to get the edges nice and sharp for the next morning's feed. It also means your bird is content if they grind their beak before sleep while standing on one foot.
